Stephanie Waters - Vocal Instructor
I began my professional acting career at 12 years of age working in the Baltimore/DC area at theatres such as The Kennedy Center, Signature Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre, and Ford’s Theatre. I also worked locally in film and TV appearing in numerous commercials, industrials, films and cable TV programs. I spent my summers as a child actor in NYC taking classes and auditioning for shows, leading me to my Broadway and touring debut as Cosette in Les Miserables at 19 years old. Post Les Mis, I spent a year in LA studying acting at the Margie Haber studio and working in film/TV. I then went back to school at New York University and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Politics. Throughout my career I’ve taught my specific text technique at studios, schools and workshops all around the country including at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, Birmingham’s Red Mountain Professional Training Workshop, and DC’s Creative Artists Institute. Additionally, I am on the Board of Trustees of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts/youngARTS where I serve as Chair of the Programs Committee and assist in overseeing scholarship programs along with all education and development opportunities for young artists. I have now returned to my roots and am currently working as a professional actress and coach in the DC area. My Technique As a result of my varied theatrical experiences, I devised a text technique that is all my own. My teaching focuses on engaging the entire person in the work, not just the voice. Do not expect to come into my studio and only work vocal technique, instead my focus is more on interpreting the text, making it personal and unique and grounding the work in story. There are tons of great singers out there, however I am more concerned with your presentation and interpretation of the text and with preparing you to market yourself as a business product; this is what will truly set you apart from.
